What
is Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D)?
The Pine Country Resource Conservation and Development Council,
Inc. originated in 1967 as the Tri-County RC&D Project
which included membership from Treutlen, Wheeler, and Montgomery
Counties. This project was the 15th of its kind in the nation
and second of its kind in Georgia to be approved by the Secretary
of Agriculture under the Food and Agriculture Act of 1962,
RC&D was not founded as a Federal government program but
as a local organization of citizens working together to improve
the quality of life in their community.
In 1991, the Tri-county Area expanded to include eight additional
counties and was renamed the Pine Country RC&D Area. Again,
in 1995, an application was made and approved to add Johnson
and Washington Counties for a total of thirteen.
The Pine Country RC&D Council is an independent, 501(c)
3 nonprofit, non-partisan group. Its primary concern is the
acceleration of conservation, development, and proper use
of natural and human resources in the area. The sponsors of
the Pine country Council are the local Soil and Water Conservation
Districts and the County Commissioners from each of the thirteen
counties.
The mission of the Pine Country RC&D Council is to lift
the economy and improve the living conditions of the area.
