Grandy/Jacks Creek
The Pine Country Council received a $212,000 grant from
the Georgia Environmental Protection Division for the purpose
of installing Best Management Practices that will reduce the
fecal coliform loading of Jack’s Creek and Yam Grandy Creek.
Practices such as pasture planting, cover crops, heavy use
areas, alternative watering facilities, use exclusion, and
animal waste facilities will be installed using grant funds.
All of the participating landowners will be supporting the
project goal of reducing the fecal coliform bacteria and
sediment load into the adjacent streams and wetlands.
The Emanuel County NRCS staff
is assisting the RC&D Council by providing the technical
assistance needed to implement the project. This project is
directed at reversing trends of increasing numbers and miles
of impaired stream segments in the Ohoopee River Watershed by
reducing pollutant loads within Jacks Creek and Yam Grandy
Creek.
